The performance of physical tasks involves many physiological (functional) and psychological(willingness and motivation) factors and processes. These factors or processes are the potential targets for focused training techniques. The potential training techniques that should be used are based on appropriate evaluations of the client’s current physical performance capabilities. Physical performance can be evaluated at several levels, including:
Based on this need, Athlete’s Arena recommends at least one (or more) of our evaluations to be performed prior to beginning our training programs to ensure appropriate attention is paid to each client’s individual need.
Upon completion of our Sports Performance training programs, athletes, parents and coaches alike will have greater confidence in the client's ability to maintain and advance their current level of competition while reducing the risk of injury and over-training. We work with athletes across a wide variety of sports, tailoring our program to meet the performance needs associated with each sport, position, and athlete.
Athlete’s Arena’s Personal Training programs are positioned to promote healthy lifestyles while increasing strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance & body-composition. This approach, combined with periodic progress testing is sure to help you achieve your fitness goals! Following an initial evaluation process, programs will be based on general progression methodology with individualized elements integrated into the training sessions to allow maximization of the client's physical investment while improving their overall well-being.
Kettlebell Training programs are designed to teach proper technique with resistance training methods to improve functional strength, power and muscle mass. Kettlebell training programs move the body through its whole range of motion to create a strong functional body that is resilient to injury. Kettlebell training programs are geared towards the individual depending on what his or her goals are. Benefits of kettlebell training include, but are not limited to, the following:

Athlete's Arena's general performance evaluation is a non-sports specific measure of athleticism. Made for the youth populations who play multiple sports, this evaluation will measure:
- Power output
- Change of direction
- Acceleration
- Core strength
- Endurance
- Modified functional movement screen
This test will help ensure clients to have a safe and promising future in sports as well as promote an active lifestyle. This evaluation will also include a consultation to educate the athlete and parent on the areas the athlete needs to focus on to excel in sports. The ACL Injury Prevention Test (also known as the Hop and Stop) was developed my Dr. Paul Juris as a measure of the likelihood an athlete will suffer dammage to the ACL. With the rise of female athletes suffering this injury, we feel it is a necessity for all female athletes to undergo this test.
The ACL Injury Prevention Testmeasures the ability of the athlete to perform single leg acceleration and deceleration as well as any imbalances that occur. These imbalances will lead to injury.
Our goal is to design a program that will rid the body of these imbalances and decrease likely hood of the athletes suffering an injury to the ACL. What is your weakest link? Remember, the weakest link rules the chain! Developed by physical therapist Gray Cook, the FMS are 7 individual tests that measure the quality of the athlete's movement patterns to look for muscular imbalances and evaluate the potential for injury to the athlete. Once the imbalances or dysfunctions are identified, proper exercises are implemented to restore function, decrease injury and improve performance.
The FMS is will evaluate:
- Squating patterns (important in jumping and landing)
- Stepping patterns (important in running or single leg jumping and landing)
- Lunging patters (improtant in running or acceleration and deceleration)
- Hamstring mobility (injury prevention along with running, jumping, landing)
- Core stability and strength (the basis of all functional movement)
- Shoulder mobility (injury prevention)
Most injuries that occur in the weight room are a direct result of poor movement patterns and technique. With the Functional Movement Screen, our goal is to identify those weaknesses, strengthen them and in return promote healthy sports participaton in our athletes.
For best results, evaluate in conjunction with Postural Assessment. Think outside of the box! Our functional strength evaluation tests the body's ability to handle itself in the way sports demands it to. We go beyond conventional strength tests (such as bench, squat, power clean) and actually measure the effectiveness of the body to adapt for sport-specific demands:
These test include, but are not limited to:
- Single leg strength and stability
- Bodyweight power output (Tendo Testing)
- Upper body pulling strength
- Lower and upper body deceleration and acceleration
- Functional core and trunk strength
Are you plagued with aches and pains from your daily routine? Does your back or shoulder always hurt but you don't know why? Are you looking for a way to achieve optimal performance in your sport? Think of your body as a stack of books, if all of the books are aligned, there is no problem, but if one book is out of place in the stack, the rest of the books have to shifted to keep the stack balanced. The exact same thing happens in your body. An imbalace in your body will cause the rest of the body to shift in order to maintain its center of gravity. A Postural Assessment is an analysis of your whole body in which imbalances are located and assessed. You will not only discover what your imbalances are, but we will also give you a series of exercises to bring your body back into a normal balance.
Your Postural Assessment will include:
- Analysis of Posture from the Front, Back, and Both Sides
- Check Feet, Knees, Hips, Spine, Shoulders, and Head for Tilt
- Check Feet, Knees, Hips, Shoulders, Neck, and Head for Rotation
- Check Spinal Curves
- Check for shifts in posture, forward head carriage, rounded shoulders, hips set forward or back.
- A complete write-up of the postural assessment
- A program designed to correct the postural imbalances, complete with pictures of each exercise.
Speed & Agility Evaluations are sports-specific assessments designed to measure the athlete's ability to handle the speed and agility demands of the sport they choose to be tested on.
Sports tested include:
- Football
- Basketball
- Baseball and Fastpitch
- Tennis
- Soccer
When testing other sports, each athlete has their own testing protocol designed and implemented based on the needs of that sports.
Sparq Testing and Sparq Ratings are also available to each athlete upon request.
